States of Mind

I got a good giggle from my wife this morning. She dreamed that I was a cashier at Meijer and couldn't figure out how to do the produce codes... and my line was getting longer.

I told her, that explains the chuckling in here sleep.

She said it probably has something to do with a discussion we had the night before about me waiting tables. Scary, but I guess not out of the question if my back is against the wall. Honestly, it isn't a bad way to go if you get into the right place and can do the job. Something like 18 years ago, I did the waiter thing... I could easily pull down in excess of a couple of hundred dollars a night... that's a 4-5 hour shift and after I took care of all the bus people. Think about those high-end restaurants catering to the upper crust or business people. Slow turn over but the cost of the meal and the impending tip would compensate versus the high turn-over, high stress low cost meal joint... The high turn-over place is where I worked for the $200+/night... I can just imagine what an up-scale place could produce.

Would anyone care for desert? Or perhaps an espresso?

I've been on the other end of some of those restaurants plunking down the standard 18% tip automatically tacked on for groups of 6 or more. Not bad, really. Those business people like appetizers, drinks, the extra bacon and I've even seen dessert liqueurs hit the table... Really? $8 for a goblet with a small amount of fermented spirits? Sigh... water, please!

Anyway, a mixed beginning of the week, but my next couple of weeks should be filled with quite a bit of stressful activities. Wish me luck, and lots of it... I'm not at liberty to say right now but it is one of those make-or-break moments with the path I am speeding down.

On the far-out weather outlooks, the temps should be reaching into the 40's so I may be able to scoot around on one of the bikes in the neighborhood soon... yay! Tiring to be in a crusty room in the basement spinning away time....

OK... returning to what I have to get done today. Concentrate!
