Sliding in the 80's

Looking out into the cold, icy Winter, everything seems so desolate and barren.

I recalled a cool time in my childhood. When the weather was much like this. Sure, I remember the mis-proportioned igloos and forts we all built, but I recall one such time when the roads were frozen with sheet ice and well glazed over. I was still putzing around on the BMXer like all the other kids on the block. On one part of the street, there was a long, clear section of pavement. On the other side... pure ice.

One by one, we took our turn. We would cook down the street on that little strip of clear pavement. Then we would hit the sheet ice. No grip. No control. Just speed. The bike would slowly come out from under and lay down. Everything went into slow motion. Soon, the bike lagged behind and left my side. The body continued and rolled 20 feet, 50 feet, 75 feet? Who knows?

It was like skydiving on the ground.

Where I live now, we never seem to get that kind of luck. Too many cars and too much snow.
