Jonesing for a Ride

Man, do I want to do a ride. I'm still laid up with a tender ankle from the crazy yellowjackets this past weekend. I thought about hitting the trail tonight, but knew it was too soon. I cooled my jets by doing a couple of things around the house and eventually threw the Fuel on the bike stand and did some much needed maintenance. After the Pando, I still have a bit of grit in the drivetrain.

I did a medium-level drive cleaning and while dooing so, discovered a little play in the cranks. I pulled the drive-side crank arm off and snugged up the bottom bracket. Play... gone.

I started to put the crank arm back on, but notice it isn't going in quite right and back everything out. D'oh! The washer was misaligned and detonated (OK, ovalized) in there and took some of the threads with it. I pulled the washer and reassembled without. But now the rings were wobbling. I tightened all the chainring bolts and it helped... but still wobbling.

I began to adjust the shifting but I couldn't quite get it where I wanted it. The shifts under load I am used to getting weren't happening for me. So I have to sneak over to the LBS and see if they have an ISIS washer laying in a parts box somewhere. I think I have a Crank Bros. ISIS bottom bracket somewhere in my parts storage, but robbing Peter to pay Paul only leads to shortages and problems down the line.

Hopefully I'll score one and have the bike running like a champ again in two shakes of my Bondhaus allen wrenches!

So I'm still in want for a ride. I thought I may sneak out tomorrow (now today) but the forecast is for rain. Still, my ankle should be ready to go Thursday or Friday when the weather again turns to be biking-ideal. See you all on the trails soon.
