More Marbles Dropping From Upstairs

Learning is part of living... and vice versa of course.

It isn't Thanksgiving yet, but I've been thinking a lot about this past year. 2008, I have to say is the most dramatic year I've lived regarding change. And as of late, learning. Most know my story so I won't get into too many detail there. But the new crew I now work with are proving to be amazing, talented, dedicated and down-right inspiring... except... I will deal with the "except" part when a few things occur in the near future that will, as least in the foreseeable future, improve the department. Anyway, I am not only schooling much of the associate designers but am being taught new and diverse skills that come from other sectors of my profession. For instance, I got to do several tape drawings this past week. This practice is usually done in the auto industry. The nice thing was that my manager taught me a few tricks. I learned a lot and discovered some tricks of my own. And then passed on some of those tips to a junior designer! A great example of sharing knowledge and passing it through "generations". Cool.

I could talk for a while about that, but I will spare everyone my jibber-jabber. I also score two... count them two illustrations in the next issue of Dirt Rag magazine! Keep an eye out for them in a few weeks... The cool thing about the illustrations is that they are fun to do and require little effort for the most part. They just flow onto the "paper" and there you go... I wouldn't trade my day job just yet to do it but maybe it will ramp up to a nice side gig through the years and something I do when I retire... of course, in conjunction with a whole consultant role (hahahah!).
