I hate technology... at least the kind that doesn't behave. I am currently on a cable modem, which I absolutely hate since the bandwidth is so volatile... so one minute it loads up just fine and then for the next 20 it is draggin' ass like a lead balloon. I've also been trying to get it to go wireless. I have been swapping a few devices around to get it to work but nothing is working. So I have to plug in via a cable near the modem. What good is a notebook if I have to sit on the damn floor next to the TV? I'd like to sit on a chair and work at a real table... but no. The technology is not cooperative. Since I will be paying rent tomorrow, I will inquire about getting the internet modem updated or something to get things ironed out. I really am sick of sitting on the floor just to get my e-mail.
Sometimes the ability for the human body to adapt really just doesn't work like it should.

Roq...go pick up an airport express, plug it into an available ethernet and you will be instantly untethered! Plus you can pop this device in your travel bag for wireless on the road, as well as a few other cool features.

Got one... but the same stranglehold. I found out I need to get my MAC address to the host provider so they can allow my device. The AP Express couldn't get it going either... and I tried every config... I suspect I may have a bum AP Exp since I had trouble with it last time I was trying to plug into the in-laws' network. Blah!
I've never had a problem with mine and it is several years old. You should return it to an Apple store for a new one. Sounds like a defect to me.
